Mr. Swigart obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in 1969. After graduating from Princeton, he spent 71⁄2 years in the Navy, flying A-6 Intruders, a carrier-based jet bomber, and as a staff officer with NATO in Naples, Italy. Mr. Swigart flew almost 200 combat missions in Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, among other medals, during the Linebacker air campaigns in 1972 in North and South Vietnam. While working for NATO, Mr. Swigart was in charge of the Southern Region of Europe’s nuclear strike plan and also obtained a Masters of Science in Business Administration through Boston University’s overseas program. After leaving the Navy, Mr. Swigart attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he was a member of the school’s Communication and Entertainment Law Review.

For 25 years, Mr. Swigart was an associate and then shareholder of the law firm of Stradling, Yocca, Carlson & Rauth, a 120-attorney firm located in Newport Beach, and in charge of that firm’s estate planning and probate practice. In October of 2009, Mr. Swigart established his own firm where he continues to specialize in trust and estate planning and administration matters. He has practiced exclusively in the area of estate planning and administration for over 33 years. Mr. Swigart is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Section, the Orange Coast Estate Planning Council and has been both a panelist and moderator for various Continuing Education of the Bar programs and has lectured on behalf of numerous other professional and financial organizations.

Mr. Swigart’s estate planning practice includes the preparation of family “living” trusts, insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, gifting programs, asset protection planning and family partnerships, as well as charitable planning devices such as charitable remainder trusts and private foundations. While generally working to avoid probate and other formal court administrations, he also provides a full range of administrative services including the administration of domiciliary and ancillary probate estates, conservatorships, guardianships and trusts, post-mortem tax planning, and the representation of beneficiaries and fiduciaries.

Mr. Swigart is a long-time resident of Newport Beach, is married and has two children. His son is a graduate of Princeton University and received a doctorate degree from Stanford University and his daughter graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and recently received her master’s degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Mr. Swigart is also an avid racing and cruising sailor, has sailed his own boats from Newport to Tahiti and back, from Newport to Cabo San Lucas, and from Costa Rica to Columbia, South America. In 2003, he was Commodore of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, one of the oldest and most prestigious yacht clubs in the country, and is a member and former chairman of its Policy & Planning Commission. Mr. Swigart has also been a long time member of the Hoag Hospital Planned Giving Advisory Committee and was a recipient of the 2003 Vin Jorgensen award for outstanding volunteer service to the Hoag Hospital.
